ABOUT HIM ...
Nnamdi Asomugha was born on July 6, 1981 to Lilian and Godfrey Asomugha. His father passed away when he was young. He has a older brother Chijioke, an older sister Chisara and a younger sister Udodirin. His family is of Nigerian descent but he was born in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was raised for much of his young life in Los Angeles, California. He starred in basketball and football at Leuzinger High School, Bishop Montgomery High School and he finally transferred and graduated from Narbonne High School. As he was being recruited to play collegeiate he was one of the most wanted high school atheletes coming out of Los Angeles.
He decided to attend University of California, Berkeley where he finished his career with 187 tackles, three sacks, 19 stops for losses, eight interceptions, three touchdowns, 15 pass deflections, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble in 41 games as a Free Safety. He would eventually graduate and complete his requirements for a Bachelor's Degree in Corporate Finance. Entering the draft much of the media were very critical of him and his so called soft hands. Selected in the first round of the NFL Draft in 2003 by the Oakland Raiders, he was quickly changed from Safety to cornerback and with excellent tutelage of Hall of Famers like Willie Brown and Ronnie Lott, he slowly emerged to be the player they had drafted him to be. He still was and always behind the shadows of other Pro cornerbacks like Charles Woodson and Philip Buchanan.
Most Raider fans and players would like to forget the 2006 season but that is what was the breakout season for Nnamdi. Intercepting a career high 8 passes that year along with a touchdown, he was playing at the level he always had worked so hard to become. He finished the year with 50 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a touchdown. Most NFL people had felt that he desrved to go to the Pro Bowl but was snubbed through initial voting. Since Rashean Mathis from the Jaguars was injured fo rthe game the final nod was given to Nnamdi Asomugha, but fate has it that there were no more flights going out that day and he was not able to make it. His team mate and one of the years sacks leader Derrick Burgess was also selected that year. Ever since then his interception totals have been only 2, but that is simply due to the fact that coaches and quarterbacks refuse to throw it towards him. This year alone quartebacks have thrown only 10 times in 10 games with 3 games without a single pass thrown towards him.
